Brunswick Business Journal Staff Report

July 18, 2018 – The Brunswick and Glynn County Development Authority will meet next Monday, July 23 at the Development Authority Office, 1505 Richmond Street, 2nd Floor, Brunswick, GA 31520, at 10:00 a.m.

The current board members include:  Paulo Albuquerque, Jack Kilgore, Jones Hooks, Wayne Johnson and Bill Austin.

In late June, the Authority chairman Paula Albuquerque announced that they were down to one finalist in their search for a new president for the Authority, Ryan Moore of Athens.  And, Albuquerque told local media that he was expected to succeed Mel Baxter.   Since 2013, Moore has been the Economic Development Director for the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government.

That announcement was expected to be made by mid- July.  But, to date, there has been no announcement.  Attempts to reach Moore have been unsuccessful.

Moore was previously with the Effingham County Industrial Development Authority from 2006 to 2013, and attended AASU and holds a Masters in Legal Studies from UGA law school.  During that period Effingham County was working to develop a major movie studio project, which later failed and was not built.

Both Mel Baxter, and  John Scott, the Authority’s primary Project Manager, have resigned.  Scott has accepted the position of Economic Development Director for Jackson County.

The Agenda for Monday's meeting includes the appointment of new Board Officers; approval of the June Financials; and a budget amendment.   There will also be an update on current projects.

There is also an Executive Session posted for Pending or Potential Litigation.
