Brunswick Business Journal Staff Report

December 10, 2018 - The Glynn Academy Alumni Endowed Scholarship Golf Tournament Fundraiser will be held at the Brunswick Country Club on Highway 17 on December 17. The tournament is open to everyone and supports Glynn Academy graduates hoping to continue their education at the College of Coastal Georgia. The day of golf will kick-off with a players’ lunch at 11:30 am and shot gun start at 12:30 pm.

The golf tournament was conceived by Donnie Revels, a 1964 Glynn Academy graduate, with the help of Jack Kilgore and Billy Brewer, both 1967 Glynn Academy graduates, as well as Dan Hogan, general manager of the Brunswick Country Club. The goal of the tournament is to raise money for an endowment fund at the College of Coastal Georgia to provide a scholarship to a Glynn Academy graduate to further his or her education.

“As graduates of Glynn Academy, we want to support current GA graduates in their pursuit of a college degree at Coastal Georgia,” said Revels. “Coming together for a worthy cause and playing golf makes it all the more fun.”

The tournament has already attracted the likes of Bill Brunson, chairman of the County Commission, Steve Melnyk, former professional golfer, commentator and US Amateur and British Amateur champion, and Tash Van Dora, all-state quarterback of the 1964 Glynn Academy state championship football team, all of whom have signed up to play. Many other community leaders and Glynn Academy graduates will be playing in the tournament as well. The tournament is open to anyone who would like to support this worthwhile community event.

Golfer registration is $100 per person or $400 per team. The cost of being a sponsor in addition to or instead of playing golf is $100 per hole. Signs for all sponsors will be on the course. The deadline for hole sponsorship is Wednesday, Dec 12. Any donations to the scholarship fund are welcome.
